The Match Game

Have you heard about The Match Game?

The Match Game is the coolest new fundraiser here at Saint Andrew’s United Church and there are many different ways you can participate. The overall goal of the game is to raise money for Saint Andrew’s in a fun (and delicious) way.

Here are the ways you can participate:

1- You can bake a dessert (or anything you feel like bringing in) and bring it into Church on Sunday

2- You can buy a delicious treat that was generously donated after Church on Sunday. You never know how much it will cost you, you have to pick the price out of a box and that’s what you pay. Prices range from 2-10$.

3-You can match. The person matching for a given week donates the equivalent of all the proceeds raised by the Match Game in that week and will receive a tax receipt for their donation.

The Match Game has had a couple of successful weeks thus far, and everybody continues to look forward to the yummy things this week, thanks to everyone who has been participating in our delicious fundraiser.

Will you be there this week?

The summer is fast approaching! June is a very busy and exciting time of year. What better way to kick off the summer months than to join your Saint Andrew’s for morning worship this Sunday, June 1st? It’s one of the last Sundays of Sunday School and of the Match game before things settle down for the summer.which reminds us, stay tuned for a special post about the Match game, in case you haven’t yet had a chance to join in on the fun!

Looking Forward to Summer

There’s a big Sunday coming up for Saint Andrew’s and for all our men and children. Sunday June 15th’s service will take place in the Memorial Hall and will mark the closing of Sunday School for the summer. There will also be a breakfast before the service for the men and their families, so bring a friend with you to Church!

Board of Trustees

proud trusteeIn the context of the United Church, a Trustee is an individual who, along with the other members of the Board of Trustees for a congregation, holds all of the property of that congregation for the use and benefit of the congregation as part of the United Church. The Boad of Trustees exercise legal ownership of all church property subject to the guidance of the congregation through the Official Board, and subject to the regulations of the United Church of Canada. At St. Andrew’s United Church the Trustees are Rev. K. Alice McAlpine, Erich Bauer, Chester Ross, Ken Semper, and Lou Sarka.

It’s Spring and we’re Bloomin’ Babies

St. Andrew’s has been “a burp” lately with infant baptisms.  Recently we have welcomed the families of Riley Margaret Lockwood, Tenley Jean Mallin,  Jager James Bowmer, and Ivy Grace Leclair.   We look forward to welcoming two more infants this coming Sunday.   May God bless these families. We look forward to getting to know them better.

Official Board

nurse-comforting-a-worried-seniorThe Official Board is the umbrella committee under which the other church committees operate. Only those serving on committees or their representatives are members of the Official Board. When major decisions need to be made, e.g. budget, building repairs, etc., an Official Board meeting is called. Sometimes the Board makes the decision needed and sometimes it brings a suggestion to a congregational meeting for discussion/approval.

Stewards Committee

Study Group

This committee is responsible for all financial aspects of the church which also includes all responsibilities attributed to the buildings and grounds. It reports yearly to the Official Board and the Congregation. The Church Treasurer and Envelope Steward together are responsible for all givings (plate, envelope and par) plus all other donations and revenues from rentals and fund raisers. Their other duties involve oversight for the disbursement of monies for salaries and operating costs required to maintain our church. The committee also includes the our Minister, the Building and Grounds Committees, and several others who look after rentals of our buildings, insurance of the buildings, furnaces, repairs to the buildings etc.

We are fortunate in having members on the Committee of Stewards who have experience in several trades such as plumbing, electricity, carpentry etc., and with a combined effort we can minimize our expenditures.

Session

The Session is the committee that oversees the spiritual direction of the congregation. ( E.g. Sunday morning worship, the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Baptism, visitation.) An individual Session member is called an elder, but not because they are old! It comes from the Scriptures where an elder is an overseer, a shepherd, a pastor. The city of Chateauguay and outlying regions where members live is divided into sections. Each section is appointed to an elder. A congregational member or adherent with concerns or questions may call their elder. The Session members must be members of the congregation and approved by the congregation for this position

Prayer Fellowship Group

The Prayer Fellowship meets on Tuesday mornings at 10 am from mid-September until the end of May. The purpose of the group is to deepen our understanding of what it means to be a Christian in today’s society.

We open with prayer when individuals bring their thanks and concerns to God. Videos are used as a basis for study and discussion. Religious and current articles from newspapers, magazines, and television are also read and discussed.

The group has existed since 1965 and many of our former members who have moved away remain in touch. There are nine members at present and all are welcome to come or to send prayer requests.
